Making Inclusive Hiring Accessible ✨ - Software Developer at AdGrader 👩💻 // DE&I Advocate

4 years ago, I was doing a Full Stack Bootcamp with University of Birmingham.I can't believe it!It was also 4 years ago I suggested we build AdGrader. When I started my first ever dev role, we were in the midst of rebuilding our suite of tools.James Vickery (my fabulous HoE), gave me the task of heading up the rebuild on AdGrader. It was a learning curve, to say the least!BUT I built an awesome tool, which is currently helping tons of companies do more than just slap a diversity statement onto their job ads.It helps them to actually be more aware of the language they're using, and how it might cause someone to deselect themselves from applying.AdGrader is live, and it's kicking, and I am super proud to have built it.Loving my journey as a developer so far.Looking forward to the future!

The busiest week of my software developer journey! Growth and Learnings in this Week of #100DaysOfCode!Days 18-23: This was a week of Immense Growth and OpportunitiesThis week has been an exciting and overwhelming ride in my tech journey! It began with diving headfirst into the world of open source, and I'm thrilled to share that I made my very first open source contribution. This achievement was a longstanding goal of mine, and it feels incredible to see it come to fruition. But that's not all – this week brought even more exciting developments. I received numerous internship and part-time offers as a frontend and full stack developer. However, I made a conscious decision to prioritize my learning journey over immediate earning goals. It wasn't an easy choice, but a mentor wisely reminded me, "There are earning goals and learning goals. Don't run behind earning goals before you finish the learning goal." This advice resonated deeply and guided my decision-making process. On top of all that I also had one of my first client interaction it turned out to be much better than I thought, and exploring the freelancing world seems a very exciting avenue for me. the coming year will probably the most exciting year of my tech journey.Key Highlights:- Made my first open source contribution.- Explored internship and job opportunities as a frontend developer.- Navigated the freelance world with initial client interactions.- Prioritized learning over immediate earning goals. A step towards strengthening the mental model of Delayed Gratification.Lessons Learned:- Learning is the foundation for long-term success.- Balancing opportunities with personal goals is crucial.- Building client interaction skills through freelancing.I'm excited to share some of the projects I worked on during this intense and rewarding week. Stay tuned for more updates as my journey unfolds. Let's keep coding, learning, and growing together! Growing developer engagement with educational video content ⚡️

I'm excited to finally unveil something that's been in the pipeline for quite a while now 🚀Building a community from the ground up takes time, and I really respect how Better Stack is tackling this challenge. They're not just growing, they're sharing knowledge through well-crafted blog posts, in-depth guides, and by actively engaging with developers' questions. Plus, they're adding long-form and short form videos.I'm on board to lend a hand, creating the kind of concise, impactful content for web developers that I love to make. It's what I've been doing on my personal channels (https://robray.dev/), but now, it's happening on a bigger stage. We're setting out to drop a fresh video every weekday and an extra treat over the weekend. If you're curious, why not follow Better Stack on TikTok (https://lnkd.in/ev6gkwBp), Instagram (https://lnkd.in/eR8Aih7g), or YouTube (https://lnkd.in/e4XhqiQw)? I'd really value your take on what we're doing, so feel free to drop your thoughts and suggestions 🙏👇#WebDevelopment #DevCommunity #CodingLife #TechEducation #BetterStack #LearnToCode #DeveloperJourney #CodingContent #TechTalk #ProgrammingTipsBackground Music: Funky Dope by Musical BakeryB-Roll: A Man Using Laptop by Olia Danilevich

Quick wins are so essential when you're learning to code. You need them to stay motivated and actually enjoy the process.Without wins you'll likely get bored or frustrated, ultimately resulting to quitting. That's one of the reasons why I love HTML, CSS and JavaScript. It's by far the easiest way to get cool stuff happening on the screen:1. Create index.html file2. Add style.css file3. Include script.js file4. Write few lines of code5. Instantly view the results in the browser.Keep building and experimenting to get those quick wins - and make sure you have fun along the way. That's how to stay interested and really improve your Coding skills.Workstation credits 📸 ~ Pinterest 📌 I'm currently looking for technical writing roles and software engineering position...Thank you 😊🙏Happy coding 🚀🎉 #coding #programming #softwareengineering

Top 1% mentor on adplist.org for 3 months running now. 🎉I learn a lot from the interactions I have with people from different walks of life almost on a daily basis. We talk about technical stuff. We talk about the difficulties we all have navigating the tech ecosystem. If there is one thing that I have learned as a result of interacting with so many people, it's that we are all wired the same at the core of it. We all need hope. We all need a helping hand. We all need a shoulder to cry on because of JavaScript 😅 In all seriousness though. If you've booked a session with me on adplist.org, I appreciate it. The sessions are a learning experience for me as well. I get into every conversation with a presumption. Each and every person that I interact with, can teach me something. So far this presumption has held true.If you'd like to book a session with me, here's a link to my profile. You can reach out to me and we can hop on a call. 😁 https://lnkd.in/ddSgn6aP#javascript #people #tech

Back in 2018, I found myself in a bit of a pickle. I had this sweet manufacturing gig in Cleveland, OH and everything was rolling smoothly. But then, out of the blue, the company where I'd been working for a solid decade dropped the bomb – they were calling it quits. Now, don't get me wrong, it wasn't an overnight thing. They said the whole shutdown saga would unfold over a few months, so I had my job secure for a while. But dang, it got me thinking: what's my next move? Stick around in the manufacturing maze or switch lanes entirely?Right then, my brain hit rewind to the good ol' days. Me and my buddies crafting soundboard apps for the Apple App Store. Those were the days! We'd dive headfirst into issues, tackling 'em together – building apps and making money. Heck, even wrestling with bugs felt like a twisted kind of fun. And guess what? That's when I felt my tiny spark turn into a full-blown code bonfire. So, I did some research and fast-forward to 2019 – with my old company out of the picture – packed my bags, moved across the country, and joined a coding bootcamp (talk about a leap of faith).Jump ahead a bit, and look at me now! Three years deep into the game, I've been building, testing, and implementing web applications using JavaScript, Node, and React like it's nobody's business. The tech world keeps chucking new challenges my way but I'm all in. Right now, I'm getting up to speed on TypeScript and deep diving on system design knowledge. And what really jazzes me up? Every single project is a brand-new adventure. Plus, partnering up with fellow code addicts... that's icing on the cake. But hey, life isn't all about code, right? When I'm not pounding the keyboard, I'm out hunting for the coolest hiking trails in LA, chowing down on Nashville hot chicken sandos, getting my game on (video games and tabletop – can't pick sides), and soaking in that sweet sunshine (give me the beach any day!).I'm always happy to connect with like-minded people or discuss new opportunities. Send me a DM! I'd love to chat.😁

💡Unraveling Why Facebook Had Decided to Completely Overhaul its Tech Stack✨Did you know that back in 2004, Facebook had started off as a simple server-rendered PHP website? Over time as more interactive features were added to the site, each addition would incrementally slow the site down. This also introduced some other complexities that made Facebook take a rare step of going for a complete code rewrite. 🧑💻Watch https://lnkd.in/gEPNSt_a to know more about it!Like, share and subscribe to 'Learn With Spreeha' on YouTube for more such videos🔔#technology #codeoptimization #techstack #facebook #performance
