Brief Summary of Work for this Position

The Assistant Director of Facilities, in coordination with theDirector of Campus Life Facilities and Business Services and otherstaff, is responsible for general Campus Life facility operationsproviding spaces, programs and service which promote community,student development and engagement. These program and servicesinclude student staff supervision and development, oversight ofgeneral and preventative maintenance functions, and director of allhealth and safety functions. The Assistant Director supervises onefull-time employee and up to 35 student employees includingbuilding manager, facility assistant, and information centeremployees. The Assistant Director is an integral member of theCampus Life management team and assists with strategic planning andbudget development processes.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience related to the area ofassignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience.All degrees must be received from appropriately accreditedinstitutions.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Master’s degree and one to three years of experience in a Unionsetting
  • Student personnel supervision at the collegiate level.
  • Experience with student staff training and development
  • Experience development high impact practices for studentemployees
  • Ability to lead projects and communicate facilities needs toother team members.
  • Facility Management and risk management experience
  • 1+ years of supervision/management experience
  • Experience working in a facility management position

Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

The Division of Student Affairs consists of thirteen functionaldepartments, each of which is responsible for providing a varietyof student support, service, and educational programs which areaccessible to all members of the university community. The staffmembers are dedicated individuals known for their passion andcommitment to implementing programs and services that affectstudent development over the course of a lifetime. Student Affairsprovides excellent delivery of student services that are responsiveto student needs and promotes the quality of life and educationboth inside and outside the classroom. We build institutionaltraditions and lifelong affiliations through creative programs,vibrant student organizations, and a living/learning environmentbuilt on core values and uncompromising principles. The Division isa leader and primary spokesperson for students.

The Campus Life department supports and gives direction toout-of-classroom learning. Based on the philosophy that learning isnot confined to the classroom but is constant and on-going, themission of the department is to facilitate the educational processby providing a laboratory experience for student growth, and anarena for the development of cultural, social, leadership, andrecreational awareness. This is accomplished through theadministration of the Fisher Student Center, University Union,Burney Center and Warwick Center and their programs and services,by providing guidance and resources to student leaders andorganizations and serving as the campus’ central point of referenceregarding leadership development, student activities andorganizations, fraternity and sorority life, and service learningand community engagement.

Campus Life also serves as the first point of contact forconference and event planning and assumes the space schedulingcoordination function for all campus space (except for academiccourse scheduling) and works with campus space stewards in variousdepartments throughout campus to ensure timely, coordinated servicefor all customers.
